When Carlos (editor) invited me to work on this book, I was excited about the idea of illustrating an alphabet, a format that during my training period I had come across on numerous occasions and in which I had never worked yet. Added to this project was the difficulty that the definitions were going to be etymological, the challenge was enormous. Once accepted, I began to imagine how to resolve it formally, something I usually do and that really serves no purpose. I remember talking to Teresa (author) and telling her that I wanted to make illustrations that flirted with engraving, calm images like old prints, conclusive and beautiful. And I also threw myself a lifeline: anything could happen, …and it did.
